Join us in welcoming Brett McBride

Following an extensive search process by our Succession Committee and the Board, we have unanimously chosen Brett McBride as our next Lead Pastor.

Introducing Brett McBride

Brett grew up in Tottenham, Ontario, a small town of about 1000 people just north of Toronto. He was raised in a loving Christian family but much like the prodigal son, chose a path through his young adult years that left him lost and without hope.

Brett’s life took a dramatic turn in September of 1997 when a member from The Peoples Church was used by God to lead him into a life-changing relationship with Jesus.

He began attending The Peoples Church and heard the call into ministry through the Global Outreach Conference in 1998, when Tony Campolo invited young adults to serve in the inner city. Within a few months of the conference, Brett found himself working in urban ministry in the city of Philadelphia where he met his wife Stephanie who was also serving as an urban missionary.

Upon his return to Toronto he met Colin McCartney who had just founded UrbanPromise Toronto, a ministry that is focused exclusively on reaching children growing up in Toronto Community Housing with the gospel of Jesus, and raising them to be leaders who restore their communities.

In 2011 Brett succeeded Colin as Executive Director of UrbanPromise where he has provided leadership to a team of missionaries in reaching into some of Toronto’s toughest neighborhoods. He also has a preaching ministry among local churches and at regional conferences.

Stephanie and Family

Family PhotoBrett and Stephanie have two sons, Jadyn (9 years) and Caleb (7 years), and have been supported by The Peoples Church for the past 17 years as they have served in the cross-cultural mission field of Toronto.

Few people know and love our city as Brett and Stephanie do. This is just one of the unique qualities that the Board of The Peoples Church recognize and value for the future growth and development of our church.

The Peoples Church has played a pivotal part of their personal journey and they are excited to enter into this next phase of ministry, working alongside our staff and congregation, to feed, nourish and equip us to find our resources in Christ, and to expand our role in God’s global mission.
