Some Good Questions
We know you may have questions as we begin this journey together. These FAQs are here to provide clarity about the Campus Stewardship process, including what has been decided, what remains open and how you can participate. We’ll continue to update this page as we pray, listen, learn and discern how God is calling us to steward the campus He has entrusted to us.
Why are we beginning this process?
Important areas of our existing building need attention. Rather than making individual renovation decisions first, the Board wants to consider the stewardship of our whole campus through the lens of our vision and mission, asking how God is calling us to use what He has entrusted to us for His purposes
Is The Peoples Church considering moving?
No. We believe God has called The Peoples Church to remain at 374 Sheppard Avenue East.
Has a campus plan already been chosen?
No. We are at the beginning of a process of prayer, listening and learning. Decisions about how the campus may be used in the future, including design, scope, cost, funding and timing, have not been made.
Is this a capital campaign?
No. This is not the beginning of a fundraising campaign. Questions about funding will come later, once there is greater clarity about how God is calling us to steward the campus.
Who is responsible for the decisions?
The Board is responsible for discernment, direction and decisions. Throughout the process, they will listen to leadership, staff, our congregation and outside expertise as needed.
Are we being asked to vote or tell the Board what to build?
No. Right now, we are asking our church family to participate through prayer and by helping us build a reliable picture of our congregation today. We are not asking people to choose a solution or tell us what should be built.
How can I pray?
Pray that God will clearly reveal His calling to the leadership of our church as they listen and discern. Also ask God how He may be inviting you to participate through prayer, your skills, service, generosity or in another way.
Why is the Congregational Survey important?
Before we consider what our campus may need in the future, we want to better understand the church God has gathered here today. The survey will give our leaders reliable information to help inform the discernment process.
What if I cannot complete the survey online?
Printed copies will be available at the Connections Centre and at our Seniors Monthly Gathering. Volunteers will also be available to help enter your responses anonymously.
I have professional experience that could help. How can I participate?
There will be an opportunity to share relevant campus-related skills and expertise later this fall. We’ll share the call for expertise through Hello Church, along with information about how you can participate. Those who identify relevant experience may be invited to a gathering in February to help inform the process. Subscribe to Hello Church.
What will happen at the January prayer gathering?
Our church family will come together to pray and seek God as we continue this journey. The focus will be on the posture God is asking each of us to bring to the process, rather than discussing or presenting preferred solutions for the campus.
What will happen at the February experts gathering?
There will be an opportunity to share relevant campus-related skills and expertise later this fall. How long will this process take?
There is no predetermined completion date. We do not want to rush ahead of what God is doing. We will take the time needed to pray, listen, learn and discern His direction together.
How will we know what is happening?
We are committed to communicating clearly as the process unfolds. We will share updates at meaningful milestones and keep this page current so you can understand what has happened, what remains open and what comes next.
