Life Group Leader

Lead a Life Group through an exciting adventure to experience Christ in community!

Responsibilities

A life group leader facilitates their life group meeting. Some leaders may choose to directly lead each group meeting, while others may administrate the leading to various members. The following are key responsibilities for life group leaders:

  • Receive communication from the church
  • Communicate with the life group
  • Receive support from a coach
  • Ensure the group is meeting and someone is leading the discussion
  • Helping to determine what the group studies
  • Attending regular life group leader training events
  • Review the upcoming weekly session ahead of time
  • Pray for life group members on a daily basis
  • Affirm every person and their contribution to the discussion, even if you do not agree with their position
  • Get to know the life group members
  • Cultivate a safe and comfortable environment, always maintaining confidentiality in the group
  • Honor the vision and culture of The Peoples Church as described in the shared mandate

Life Group Host

Host a Life Group in your home or online!

Responsibilities

A life group host hosts a life group meeting in their home. They may also support life group leaders with some administrate tasks to support the health of a life group. The following are key responsibilities for life group hosts:

  • Enjoys practicing hospitality
  • Opens their home (or an online space) to others for the meeting
  • Helps people feel welcomed
  • Willing to organize or provide snacks for the group, if meeting in person
  • Supports the life group leader
  • Pray for life group members on a daily basis
  • Get to know the life group members
  • Cultivate a safe and comfortable environment, always maintaining confidentiality in the group
  • Honor the vision and culture of The Peoples Church as described in the shared mandate

Welcome Desk Support

Welcome our guests and congregants and help them get connected to our ministries!

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests that arrive at Connection Centre and help them feel welcomed
  • Receive and screen all inbound telephone calls and visitors to The Peoples Church
  • Assist and direct guests to appropriate Ministry Leaders
  • Answer any questions relating to The Peoples Church serving opportunities and events
  • Provide relevant information to congregants
  • Build community by engaging with newcomers
  • Engage with visitors and make them feel welcome

Connection Team Member

Welcome our guests and congregants on Sundays and help them get connected to our ministries!

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests that arrive at Connection Centre and help them feel welcomed

  • Provide relevant information to congregants

Prayer Team Member

Provide prayer support for congregants on Sundays and throughout the week!

Responsibilities

  • Attend Sunday service weekly and pray with congregants who desire prayer in the auditorium at the end of 9:00 AM or 11:30 AM services
  • Ensure information / prayer request is updated in CCB by providing details to an Administrator for follow-up
  • Pray daily for those who were prayed for at the end of the service
  • Pray over weekly email prayer requests

Online Chat Host

Create a welcoming online Sunday experience for our livestream guests and congregants!

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and congregants as they join our livestream service and make them feel welcome
  • Engage the online audience
  • Respond to online questions and direct difficult and sensitive questions to appropriate Ministry Leaders
  • Answer questions about TPC events and programs
  • Provide relevant information to online audience
  • Build community by engaging with TPC online audience

Provide prayer support to Sunday livestream guests and congregants on our Church Online platform.

Responsibilities

Friendship Class Assistant Leader

Support our vibrant ministry to our friends with special needs!

Responsibilities

  • Show up to our weekly program, every week
  • Participate in the program through worship, games, and discussion
  • Disciple and build relationships with our friends
  • Use your gifts within the ministry (i.e. teaching, worship, games, crafts, etc.)
  • Pray regularly for the friendship class and families
  • Attend all events, meetings, and gatherings for volunteers

Commitment

  • Sundays – 45 minutes before Worship Service and until all our special needs members are picked up by their family, wheeltrans or support workers (10:45 AM – 12:45 PM) – approximately 2 hours
  • We ask for a one year commitment (September-August)
  • Approximate total time commitment = 8-10 hours per month

Alpha Facilitator

Lead a group through an exciting adventure to encounter Jesus!

Responsibilities

  • Review the upcoming weekly session ahead of time
  • Arrive 30 minutes before the session begins to meet with the Alpha Host – these mandatory pre-session meetings are an opportunity to talk about the session ahead and to pray together
  • Pray for your guests on a daily basis
  • Affirm every person and their contribution to the discussion, even if you do not agree with their position
  • Learn the names of each guest, and then call each by their name
  • Cultivate a safe and comfortable environment, always maintaining confidentiality in the group
  • Honor the vision and culture of the Alpha Program, as it aligns with The Peoples Church shared mandate

Support the Alpha program by providing hospitality to Alpha participants.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive 30 minutes before the session begins to meet with your session Facilitator
  • Pray for your guests on a daily basis
  • Befriend and welcome all guests warmly, showing genuine care and love
  • Plate, serve, and clean up after meals
  • Take plates, cups and utensils as guests finish meals
  • Learn the names of each guest, and then call each by their name
  • Fill/refill water pitchers, distribute Alpha supplies
  • Assist with tasks as needed

Visitation Ministry Visitor

Join a caring team that provides visitation to seniors, shut-ins, and hospital patients who (primarily) are members of our church family.

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and strengthen members and adherents of our church family by visiting them – including hospital patients, retirement home residents, shut-ins, new Canadians and refugees, and the bereaved
  • Befriend, comfort, and pray for those in need
  • Open doors of opportunity to share the gospel where applicable

  • Common sense and tact – the art of prayerfully saying the right thing in the right way at the right time

Support our Visitation Team members by connecting them with those who require visitation.

Cultural Fellowship Leader

Our Cultural Fellowships are welcoming connection groups based on shared culture and faith. Support our fellowships by becoming a leader/coordinator!

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Cultural Fellowship strategic plan to their cultural group
  • Develop a complementary ministry plan with the Newcomers Ministry Pastor and implement it
  • Involved in all aspects of direct ministry to cultural group members and their families, as tasked (build and maintain relationships, support with needs, develop programs and gatherings, journey with members to deepen their relationship with Jesus)
  • Develop leaders and disciple believing group members
  • Incorporate volunteers into Cultural Fellowships and coordinate with Newcomers Ministry Pastor to develop partnerships with community organizations and community groups
  • Various ministry functions including, but not limited to: leading Bible studies, praying, strategic planning, directing, supervising ministry activities of others, etc.
  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor and other Cultural Fellowship leaders to provide support as needed

Young Adults Leader

Responsibilities

  • Show up to our weekly program, every week

Newcomers Ministry

We are a welcoming community that seeks to provide compassion, connection, and community for newcomers to Canada. Our serving teams are unique and rewarding opportunities to serve God with a global impact right here in the city of Toronto!

Administrator

Provide administrative support to a team that seeks provide compassion, connection, and community for newcomers to Canada in the fullness of Jesus’ love.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor, TPC Administrative team, and Newcomers Network leaders to provide administrative support as needed
  • Email correspondence, follow-up phone calls, reference check calls, draft reference letters, making copies, data entry, record keeping, and other duties
  • Data entry and management with church database software
  • Admin support for groups and/or event marketing, registration, communication, attendance, follow-up, etc., (pre/post-event and live)
  • Producing, gathering and filing newcomers intake forms, as well as supporting to triage and direct them to appropriate support
  • Support with regular newsletter email drafts using MailChimp
  • Support with graphic design for marketing using Canva
  • Support with updates to various social media platforms

Skills

Discipleship Team Member

Disciple newcomers in their faith and life journey! Walk alongside them with patience, hospitality, and care as they explore and expand their faith in Jesus, and as they journey in their new home country.

Responsibilities

  • Disciple and/or mentor newcomers to be followers of Jesus Christ through One-on-one discipleship, Micro-groups (2-3 people), Life Group leadership/hosts
  • Provide newcomers with personal spiritual care, relevant Bible & applicable content, and support
  • Plan and prepare, in advance, discipleship growing and Bible-learning experiences. Utilize at least 1 hour a week to prepare using the assigned curriculum or approved alternate resources
  • Meet with newcomers on regularly scheduled day(s)
  • Use facilitation techniques more than lecturing techniques to encourage newcomers to practice speaking English
  • Encourage newcomers to ask questions
  • Maintain a safe discipleship environment for newcomers and maintain confidentiality
  • For Life Groups: be attentive to newcomers who seems to be progressing at a slower rate because of their English level and make every effort to make them feel safe, cared for, and loved
  • Remain spiritually attuned. Be attentive to the Holy Spirit and remember that it is His job through you to reveal the love of Jesus to the newcomer
  • Build friendship with newcomers and support them by maintaining regular contact with them
  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor and Newcomers Network leaders to provide support as needed

  • Welcome new people and encourage connection between newcomers
  • If able and possible, build friendship with newcomers and support them by maintaining regular contact with them
  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor and Newcomers Network leaders to provide ministry assistance as needed

International Student Ministry (ISM) Team Member

Support and befriend international students who are on their migration journey into Canadian society. Walk alongside them into a relationship with Jesus with patience, hospitality, and care!

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with internationals students and maintain regular contact with them
  • Support international students with their needs (i.e., community, language, immigration, etc.)
  • Help the ISM team with developing and executing programs/ events/gatherings for international students
  • Journey with international students to come into relationship with Jesus and/or deepen their relationship with Jesus
  • Develop and prepare believing international students for ministry in their home country when they return
  • Assist ISM team to grow and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, universities, partners, stakeholders, faculty and staff
  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor and Newcomers Network leaders to provide support as needed

ESL Bible Study Teacher

Prepare and share weekly ESL Bible study lessons with our newcomers!

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team of teachers
  • Plan and prepare, in advance, small group Bible-learning experiences. Utilize at least 1 hour a week to prepare lessons for Sunday classes using the assigned curriculum or approved alternate resources
  • Deliver/teach the program on scheduled Sundays
  • Use facilitation techniques more than lecturing techniques to encourage students to practice speaking English
  • Encourage students to ask questions
  • Maintain a safe educational environment for students
  • Be attentive to students who seems to be progressing at a slower rate because of their English level and make every effort to make them feel safe, cared for, and loved
  • Refrain from using Christian jargon or references that may be unknown to newcomers
  • Remain spiritually attuned. Be attentive to the Holy Spirit and remember that it is His job through you to reveal the love of Jesus to the students
  • If able and possible, build friendship with students and support them by maintaining regular contact with them
  • Collaboratively work alongside Newcomers Ministry Pastor and Newcomers Network leaders to provide support as needed

Our ESL classes provide connection, friendship, and study opportunities to all newcomers in Canada in the fullness of Jesus’ love. Support our ESL teaching team and classes by becoming an ESL Coordinator!

  • Oversee the volunteer ESL teaching team
  • Provide care and appreciation to the ESL teaching team
  • Serve as point of contact between Newcomers Ministry Pastor and ESL teaching team
  • Monitor and track all ESL class activities
  • Provide regular updates and report issues to Newcomers Ministry Pastor
  • Provides weekly updates to ESL teaching team via email/phone
  • Attends bi-monthly meetings with Newcomers Ministry Pastor
  • Pray regularly for the ESL teaching team
  • Available every Tuesday and Thursday for ESL classes (flexible)

Guide, develop, and support newcomers as they establish their careers in Canada through personal employment mentorship in the fullness of Jesus’ love.

Responsibilities

  • Participants are paired with an Employment Mentor for one-on-one employment/career support in areas such as job search strategies, resume writing, networking, interview prep, etc.
  • Assist newcomers to learn about Canadian workplace culture and industry trends
  • Asist mentees to establish professional networks, improve professional terminology, and build confidence in a new culture
  • Attend Employment Café – a monthly gathering for training, networking, and support with other mentors and newcomers

Skills
