Did you know that the Canada Revenue Agency has confirmed an extended deadline for making 2024 donations?
To mitigate the impact of the recent mail strike in Canada, the CRA recently confirmed that individuals may claim eligible donations made to charities up to February 28, 2025 on their 2024 personal income tax return.
Given this extension, we plan to mail you a separate donation tax receipt for all eligible donations received from you in January and February 2025, provided the total is $10 or more. These separate extension period receipts will be mailed out in early April 2025.
Note: further that in February 2026, we plan to mail you a donation tax receipt for donations received from you during the 10-month period from March 2025 to December 2025. As such, assuming you have made donations of $10 or more in each period in 2025, ultimately you will receive 2 separate donation receipts from us for donations made in calendar 2025.
To be included on these separate extension period receipts, donations must be received by February 28, 2025, as follows:
- Sunday offerings: By Sunday, February 23, 2025
- Donations sent by mail: Post-marked by February 28, 2025 (cheque also dated February 28, 2025 or earlier)
- Donations made online: Your online donation must be received by 11:59:59 PM EST on February 28, 2025
- Delivered in person: Received at the church by February 28, 2025

Eligible donations include donations made in the form of cash, cheque, credit card, money order, or electronic payment. Individuals can choose to claim eligible gifts up to February 28, 2025, on their 2024 income tax return. If those gifts are not claimed on the 2024 income tax return, the amount can be claimed on the 2025 return or carried forward during the normal 5-year carry-forward period.
