I LIVE AGAIN UGANDA
COUNTRY: UGANDA
MINISTRY: EMPOWER & RESETTLEMENT
In Uganda, our partners at I Live Again (ILA) are working hard to restore peace among individuals, families, and communities after two decades of civil war. 1.3 million people were forced into internal displacement camps, and an estimated 60,000 children were abducted and forced to become child soldiers.
Through their ministry of healing, hope, and identity in Christ, ILA is journeying with hurting people towards peace and forgiveness.
Each Sunday in December, we will be sharing a new story from ILA of how the glory of God is shining brightly in the lives of people transformed by peace.
LEBANON SOCIETY FOR EDUCATION & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
COUNTRY: LEBANON
MINISTRY: BREAD & SALT
Our partners at the Lebanon Society for Education and Social Development (LSESD) have initiated Khebz w Meleh (Bread and Salt), an inter-religious peace-building initiative. By bringing together youths from different religious backgrounds into guided interfaith forums around a meal and various community development projects, the initiative helps young adults gain the tools necessary for them to bridge the gap left behind by the civil war while becoming active agents of change in their communities.
Through showing their communities that youths from different religions can work together, they hope to not only influence the youths through the friendships they make, but also influence their communities and leaders, so that reconciliation is one step closer. By bridging the gap between religions, they also create opportunities for kerygmatic proclamation and the sharing of the good news of Christ.
FUNDACION DOULOS
COUNTRY: COLOMBIA
MINISTRY: REUNITED
Since a mass exodus began from Venezuela in 2014, about 2 million Venezuelans have settled in Colombia. Now, this massive influx of migrants and refugees is creating a backlash in Colombia, with some people unfoundedly blaming the newcomers for a host of problems presently facing Colombia, including rising crime, unemployment and the spread of COVID-19.
The situation is causing violent tensions to rise between Colombians and Venezuelan refugees which the church is attempting to address. Our partners at Latin America Mission are working alongside local churches to run sports-based programs which are providing an excellent context for peace-building support groups particularly among males and adolescents.
SIM (SERVING IN MISSION)
COUNTRY: NORTHERN AFRICA
MINISTRY: TRIBAL PEACEMAKING
The objective of this project is to promote peaceful co-existence among neighbouring clans in the northern region of Africa by introducing a biblical worldview about peace and facilitating a change of attitudes and traditions that foster violence. Our partners are working alongside believers to improve security, stability, and peaceful co-existence among neighboring clans and prevent spill-over of violence to the other tribes of the region.
I-EMERGENCE
COUNTRY: CANADA
MINISTRY: MOCCASIN LODGE
Our partners at iEmergence are actively working toward truth and reconciliation among Indigenous peoples of Canada, through building and strengthening relationships where Indigenous people feel valued and supported in their journey of well-being, and embrace their cultural identity. As Indigenous people experience a Creator-centered sense of well-being and belonging they will be able to find common ground with other peoples in culturally safe communities.
