Workshop Details
Date: Every Wednesday, July 28 – August 11 (three workshops)
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Location: Online
Instructor: Brett Ullman

Workshops:

1. Parenting: Navigating Everything

Some foundational parenting questions all parents must consider:

  • What are Parenting Styles and which ones should I be using in my parenting?
  • How can I gain better communication skills and use them with my children?
  • What does spending time with my kids look like?
  • How do I effectively discipline my children?

Various aspects of home life also need addressing, with each section being a sizeable discussion on their own. In this talk Brett will look at where parents can begin these discussions (on-ramps), and give practical tools so they can effectively talk with their kids about all of the following areas:

  • Family Discipleship (how to raise our kids in our Christian faith)
  • Health (mental, emotional, physical)
  • Sexuality (pornography, dating, marriage)
  • Media (TV, movies, music, social media)
  • Drug / Alcohol use & abuse
  • Education
  • Finances

2. Media. Faith. Culture.

When we interact with our culture, we take action and, when we think about what we are absorbing, we connect it to ourselves and our lives. As Christians, we need to actively be involved with our culture without blindly accepting it as true. Pascal said it wonderfully, “The greatest enemy of the spiritual life was inattention, complacency.”

No more thoughtless watching.
No more thoughtless listening.
No more thoughtless online activity.
No more thoughtless anything…
Christianity is a strategic, intentional daily pursuit.

In this workshop Brett discusses, from a parent’s perspective, sensitive topics affecting today’s young people. Bringing hope and an awareness to today’s parents, Brett sheds light on how with increased knowledge of youth trends, adults can be more discerning in their parenting strategies and better able to anticipate the needs of their children as they navigate the often challenging waters of adolescence.

3. Q&A Night

This will be an opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with Brett!

About Brett Ullman
Brett Ullman travels North America speaking to teens, young adults, leaders and parents on topics including sexuality, mental health, men, dating and media. Brett’s seminars engage and challenge attendees to try and connect our ancient faith with our modern culture we live in. Participants are inspired to reflect on what we know, what we believe and how our faith ought to serve as the lens through which we view and engage tough conversations in our society today.

Husband to Dawn, and father of Bennett and Zoe, Brett and his family make their home in Ajax, Ontario where Brett leads and directs Worlds Apart, a charity focused on empowering individuals to re-align their lives with Biblical core values often muddled by media but central to Christian living.

Brett was a teacher with the Toronto District School Board for 10 years before moving into speaking full-time back in 2005. Brett has a Masters degree in Evangelism and Leadership from Wheaton Grad School in Chicago and is also a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program.
